How do I know if my phone system is compatible?

If your phone system was installed by a phone vendor and you have a wall mounted phone cabinet somewhere in your building, most likely your phones are compatible. If your phones were purchased off the shelf at a retail store, message on-hold may be available by using an adapter.

Do we need professional installation?

With most phone systems our equipment is "plug & play." Just locate the MOH port in the main cabinet and plug the audio cable in. Some phone systems may require programming or a "punch down" which is best handled by your phone technician. We will be happy to help you determine if a phone technician may be required.

How much does it cost?

The price for services depends on the production program you choose. Call to speak with one of our representatives and let them know your messaging goals. We will be happy to explain and recommend the program that will best meet your needs and budget.

How often should we change our messages?

For most businesses two changes per year are ideal. It keeps the messages refreshed and provides flexibility for adding any new content. If your business experiences seasonal changes or trends, four changes per year make sense. If you are going to announce limited time engagements, or promote upcoming events you should choose a program that will provide ample changes for new content and replacement of out-of-date content.

Can I use music that is more recognizable?

Major label artists have agreements with music licensing companies such as ASCAP or BMI. The cost associated with synchronization rights to use major label music for message on hold productions would not allow us to keep our prices competitive.

The music in our production library has been specifically selected to provide a range of styles while appealing to the widest audience and will complement your production without being distracting to your message. Just like music scores used in film, background music for your production should be selected based on the mood you want to create for your caller rather that on personal tastes.

What about using a radio on hold?

Using a radio on hold is considered a public performance. To be lawful a public performance must be licensed. Besides, for most businesses, playing a radio on hold full of commercials, traffic reports and annoying DJ's will do nothing to enhance their image.

Can we just use a regular CD player?

Sure. However, commercially available CD players are not designed for constant use. The motor on a CD Player must constantly spin to keep playing. Most CD players will only last a few months before they have to be replaced. Plus, overheating or power failures will cause the CD player to shut down, leaving all your callers in silence until someone physically checks to see if it's still playing. Plus, you are required to obtain proper music licensing to comply with copyright laws.
The digital equipment provided by Business Audio Source is specifically designed for message on hold use and is a continuous play audio source with no moving parts to wear out. Even with a loss of power your messages will automatically continue once power is restored.
